Taihang Mountains

    Nanmantuo lies at the southern end of the Taihang mountain range where Xu Bing spent several months in 1980 working on his degree project. The village of Shouliang Gou is at the northern end of the same range. The mountains are associated with the Song dynasty (AD 960–1279) painting tradition. The village of Nanmantuo itself is ancient, and retains its own folk customs.
