Qi Gong is a descendant of the Qing (1645-1911) imperial family, and noted for his calligraphy as much as for his landscape painting. He explains in the inscription on this painting : βThe painting of Autumn Mountain by Xiangbi laoren [aka Wang Jian (1593-1677)], imitating the original one by Dachi [aka Huang Gongwang (1269-1354)], is of classic elegance and natural beauty; it is possible to imagine the excellence of the original painting. This painting slightly follows its style.β
